Gel Manicure
Gel nails are gorgeous until it’s time to take them off. Ensure you have at least 30 minutes of free time and that you are in a well-ventilated area when removing your polish. Why not catch up with your favorite reality TV show? Remove your manicure gel’s top layer with a rough nail file, but don’t remove the entire polish. You only want to remove the sheen. Then, cover the nail with a moisturizing hand cream or oil to protect your nails from the acetone. Then you can either dip cotton balls in acetone and place them directly on your nails and wait or wrap your cotton balls in acetone on your fingers with aluminum foil. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then watch what your nails look like. If the gel seems to be peeling off your nails, you’re on the right track; otherwise, keep soaking. Once your nail polish is loose, gently peel it off. Use a nail stick to remove any remaining polish. Finally, moisturize your nails! Acetone is too drying, so soak your nails in coconut oil for a few minutes.
Acrylic Manicure
Acrylic nails are fun because they are low-maintenance, but they damage your real nails. Before you lose your false nails in the grocery store, remove them without damaging them too much. Pour acetone into a bowl and warm it up by placing that bowl in a large bowl with hot water—Dip fingers in a bowl filled with acetone for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, be sure to moisturize your nails with coconut oil or a creamy moisturizer to prevent your nails from becoming brittle.
You don’t have to drive around town with half-chipped fingernails or make an expensive appointment to have your fingernails removed. Removing your gel and acrylic manicure can be done at home without damaging your nails forever. Remember to take breaks between coats of polish to let your nails breathe a little!
